Tony Bugge, cousin

A Seattle native, Bugge moved to San Francisco after being recruited to play sports by Holmgren's father. He's now an accountant in Soquel, Calif.

Barry Cooper, lifelong friend

Holmgren's friend from the neighborhood has worked for years as a member of the San Francisco Police Department, mounted division. His office: the stables at Golden Gate Park.

Steve Ellison, former boss

The former Sacred Heart coach hired Holmgren in 1972 and shared in the misery of 22 consecutive defeats. He has since become a highly successful coach at Petaluma (Calif.) High School.

Ed "Skip" Farina, fraternity brother

Holmgren's Sigma Chi fraternity brother at USC owns a commercial roofing company with plants in Pennsylvania and Nevada.

Billy Jamison, lifelong friend

As the older brother to Holmgren's closest friend, Jamison trained Holmgren to work behind the bar at the Nightwatch restaurant. He's now majority owner of the Buchanan Grill, a San Francisco sports bar that proudly features Holmgren as part-owner.

John Jamison, lifelong friend

Billy Jamison's younger brother by two years, John is generally regarded as Holmgren's closest friend. Jamison now teaches at Oak Grove High School in San Jose - coincidentally, the same school where Holmgren coached and taught from 1975 to 1980.

Fred Khasigian, fraternity brother

Holmgren's former freshman roommate is an orthopedic surgeon in Sacramento. A former football and rugby player at USC, he recently coached Sacramento's Jesuit High School to a national rugby title.
